T20 Schedule and Fixtures

The 2012 ICC World Twenty20 will be the fourth ICC World Twenty20 competition, an international Twenty20 cricket tournament that will be held in Sri Lanka between September 18 and October 7, This will be the first World Twenty20 tournament held in an Asian country, the last three being held in South Africa, England and the West Indies respectively.

The International Cricket Council’s executive committee voted for the hosts of the tournament after examining bids from the nations which expressed an interest in holding a Twenty20 World Championship. After South Africa in 2007, England and West Indies hosted the tournament in 2009 and 2010 respectively. The next tournament will be hosted by Sri Lanka in 2012. The ICC decided that South Africa and England should host the first two tournaments as they were the earliest adopters of the format.Bangladesh will host the 2014 ICC World Twenty20 Championship.

Each group team will play three matches against other teams of the same group. Top two teams will reach Super Eight stage. Eight teams will be divided into two groups (E, F) which will stage matches within group. Top two teams of each group will reach semi-final stage (knockout) of ICC World T20 2012. There would be final between winners of semi final matches.Total 39 matches would be played, an increase of 12 matches from earlier 27 matches played in the year 2010.
